Project- VVC-S

So go back a couple of years ago and a good friend of mine bought a very nice looking Mk2 ZS 120 with the 180 kit.
However the performance was unsurprisingly disappointing so we set to converting it into a VVC via a replacement head/loom and ecu.

Roadside mechanics

Still the performance was lacking.

So we learnt to modify the ECU and developed our own remaps which is currently being used on my ZR (170hp) and now quite a few others.

But still...the performance was lacking.

After spending some time talking turbos , boost , cams , ecus we decided on a supercharged VVC with it still using the MEMS 3 ecu.

Fast forward to last weekend and after alot of work and a rough road tune we strapped it down onto the dyno.

The result....180hp. Granted a little less than we hoped but it dropped off pretty hard after 5500rpm and with no time left on the dyno to fix it we had to make do.

But on the plus side we got a wonderful torque curve and a whopping 26lbft more torque than a "stock" VVC (remember that stock VVC are ambitious) and I'm happy the dyno was accurate rather than optimistic. The wheel -> fly conversion was near enough 15% which is much less than I've seen over dyno results claim.

The next day we headed down to our local track and thought we'd give the old girl a proper test....5 laps later we were in the pits, bonnet up and fire extinguishers putting out a small fire. A bad oil leak had soaked the block which then caught ablaze. Luckily no damage done

Overall though we're very happy with the current results, especially when we start increasing the boost as at the moment it's only on 0.3bar over atmospheric. Even more impressive is that the 120 bottom end is still going strong despite being told over and over that its not good for anything more than X amount of hp
