04 kv6 overheat

Hi everyone

While driving down the motorway at a steady 70mph i noticed the temp gauge right at the top and the red light on, so i found a safe place to pull over called the AA, they did this -
Bleed coolant system having refilled with water only. Carried out combustion gas detection test which was negative. Read Engine Control Unit fault codes and found cooling fan circuit 2 fault however with AC on cooling fans run at fill power . Patrol found the following fault code/s:System : Engine control - 39H / Engine management EMS2000P0481 - . Error Message : Cooling fan 2 control circuit.P1472 - Variable intake system (VIS) 2, output valves. Error Message : Valve(s) constantly open.

It seemed to take alot of water but i did check it was full before leaving. After doing the above he felt i should be ok to get back home. On the way back home on the motor way, keeping to 70 mph the check engine light intermittently kept flashing up and the engine seemed unable to pick up smoothely and now sounds like it is coughing and spluttering under acceleration.

Any ideas what else this may have done and if its ok to still drive ?
