Alternator or something else?

Hi guys,

Been using the F for 3 weeks while I did some bodywork on the ZR. I didn't start it at all. Interestingly, the battery was flat when I tried to start again.

So I've charged it up but the battery light is on. I've driven, and the engine has cut out, twice.

I've changed batteries from the F to the ZR, still battery light.

I had no problems before parking it up.

The alternator belt is new and obviously in top condition.

Would a dodgy earth on the slam panel cause problems with charging? The car has no electrical issues other than not charging.

I don't want to be buying a new / remanufactured alternator for this not to be the cause.
