Jump starting ZR 160 from a MINI Cooper S

As title, I'm trying to jump my ZR 160 using a MINI Cooper S as a the donor vehicle.

Two things, the Cooper S battery is in the boot, but has a positive terminal located under the bonnet which is fine, although I would normally connect the negative (-) terminal from the donors battery to an earthing point on the dead car. So I'm guessing it is ok to earth from the ground point on the MINI to the ground point on the ZR, rather than from the negative battery point to the earth point on the ZR?

Also, when I have it hooked up like this, the ZR starts making intermittent beeps like something is kicking back into life? Not sure what this is, so stopped short of starting up the MINI to try and charge.

Also, when I connected it like this, there were some sparks from the negative end when connecting to the ZRs earthing point. Normal?

Anyway, something did't seem quite right, so aborted for now. I'm using the earthing point on the ZR as suggested in the handbook, although it is not all that clear exactly where that is!!

Any input appreciated

EDIT: So after thinking this through, I guess the beeps are the alarm system kicking back in and detecting that the bonnet is open? So I should be able to stop this via the key fob right?
