Air filter and throttle body position
Air filter and throttle body position
Hi,
This is a bit of a techy question relating to the position of the air filter (on a 180 specifically, but I guess it relates to any vehicle). In general, there would appear to be two options, first with the air filter next to/ near the TB and a cold air collection pipe running in to the inner wing (for example), or secondly, have something like a foam cone filter in the inner wing and a pipe from this to the TB. So, the air tract length from the TB to the inner wing is the same, but key is the position of the filter, either close to, or remote of, the TB.
From a performance point of view, which is better? If one is better, why is this the case? What is the reason for one having a benefit over the other? This assumes both are drawing cold air from the same place. Or does it not matter at all? Would be interesting to understand if there are differences.
Cheers!
