Fitting new knuckle joints

I have fitted new Trophy hydoelastic spheres all round.

Knuckle joints are new but I cannot get the nylon part of the knuckle joints bedded in at all. They sit as far as the rubber 'O' ring but no further. On one occasion I used a piece of wood and hammer and got one of the knuckle joints fully in, but damaged the rubber boot in the process.

Is there a way please of getting the nylon bit fully in without damaging it and the rubber?
