I have done it. Back in circa 2004 I had to take out the dash - no mean feat! Sterring whhel etc out. Major job. Not difficult but time consuming. The aircon equip stayed in (thank god).

A year ago, I replaced th Mk1 snorkle with the MK 2 version; then I saw through the hole the resister pack (mostly hiiden but it was there). My thought was and is whether one can replace the pack by taking out the snorkle. Much easier if this can be done than the way I did it all those years ago.
