ZS Tyre Load and Speed Index
I am thinking of fitting a set of Rover 15" wheels with virtually new all-season tyres (just because I have them!) for a short spell during the winter months to my mk1 ZS 120. Trouble is that they have an 82H rating which appears to be outside the scope recommended by the owners handbook which says 85H for 15". (though Haynes book says 82H)
If the max axle weight is given as 845kg on the front and 840kg on rear why can't I use a load index 82 tyre which I believe is rated up to 475kg?
Will this fail MoT? Is it unsafe? Want to be sure about this before I change anything. I have already allowed for a change from original wheels in my insurance.
Also, 16/17" wheels for the same car are given even higher load and speed index. Top speed for this car is 122mph I believe. Why?
Baffled.....
