Don't worry about the fake walnut bottom part which doesn't fit very well: I think I'll get rid of it when I have done another mod on the dials: 4 aluminium rings like those you can see above for the heater controls, and a clean walnut background (lots of cuttings to be made with a very sharp cutter, but I hope it will look classy, like the ones of the good old cars Rover made in its heyday).
The cup holder is easy to fit.
Just a L shaped metal leg painted in black to maintain the whole to the ash tray, hidden between the ash tray itself (I don't make use of) and the little front panel, so that the upper screw is not to be seen.
For the lower fixation on the cup holder, I used a Rover trim panel clip to let it be more fit on purpose. And I made some little cutting in the back part to let it enter in the bottom space, and more generous cutting on the front part not to interfere with the gear lever.
And to make it perfectly horizontal and avoid any noise, I glued 2 rubber rings less than a third of an inch high at the bottom of each cup.
It can't move at all and doesn't make any noise.
Last information: I never thought very useful the space at the back or the cup holder, now sealed off (or a secret place to hide something?). A quirky & noisy shaped place where I often lost my gate fob (with a genuine Rover keyring coming with its shopping cart coin!), so that now I can put it in the left cup holder, and other bits and pieces such as motorway tickets for example, and my wife's cup indeed in the right place.
