Coolant not circulating ??

So, I have the car running.

But, the heater inside doesn't work. I know there is a minor water leak... that is not a problem at the moment.

The problem is that the coolant doesn't appear to be circulating around.... it isn't going through the radiator.

After running for a while, the temp guage show bang in the middle. Top hose is hot hot hot, bottom hose cool cool cool. The heater hoses are cool. The rad end of the hose that goes to the top of the expansion tank is warm but cold at the tank end. Water doesn't seem to come through that pipe into the tank. The bottom pipe from the tank also cool. The metal pipe at the bottom of the block to which the other heater pipe and others connects is cool.

But the temp gauge seems to stay in middle range.

Any ideas what the problem is ? Should there not be coolant flowing into the top of the expansion tank through the small hose ?
