Lessons learnt
Well i don't think i could ever say i hate or dislike my ZT in fact i would say it possibly the best car i have ever had disbite the recent issues ive had but these are the lesson i've learnt
Firstly if you buy a ZT with 1.8t k-series and the head gasket Has failed.....throughly check the car to find out why it fail especially when you take the head to find a MLS gasket which means it's already been changed.
After i changed my head gasket i've had a good 2 yr trouble free motoring,,, althoughI've had the slight coolent loss, i've never really though about it to much untill today as i've got the head off and it seems i've got a very badly pitted head which i didn't have before...
So first lesson when topping up the cooling system make sure your replacing it with a 50/50 mix of OATS coolant.....NOT Just plan water as i did
Second lesson area's of coolant loss that are very stealthy......
1) The very small hose that leads of the turbo to the top t-peice this seem to be a low pressure hose as the system will still pressure and it will just dribble even with a decent size split
2) the second much larger angled hose from the turbo to the second t-Piece again this seems to dribble even under pressue and tend to get evaporated by the turbo
3) the angle peice on the top left hand side of the radiator the o-ring here does tend to leak....and rimmer brother offer a very nice shiny stainless steal peice for a decent price
The third lesson i found out today and that is the water pump was either remove or changed before i got it and i today spent and hour trying to find the 5th bolt holding it only to find it was missing.......so check everything.....
The 4th and most important lessons.....you have to really love these cars be completely insane to own and operate one.....and don't be supprised if your friend think your mad when you discribe the value of the car as priceless...
