Rover 45 rattle

Hi all. My R45 51 plate has developed a annoying noise..at first we thought it was something rattling in the glove box or door pocket...it only seemed prevalent when throttling up it sounds like a lose metallic rattle.... The noise did seem to dissapear but has returned and can be heard with the windows open....it seems to be from the centre to N/S of the car both when when the car is stationary or moving I cannot hear anything from the engine ie tappets belt tensioner etc..... the car has just passed its mot but it was noticed before that so I don't think it a bearings or drive shafts..l have 2 thoughts clutch bearing or exhaust baffles....anyone else have any ideas

PS I have had the car nearly 6 years done 25k it is now on 84k and have no record of the clutch being changed
