How long do HIDs last?

I've been getting through headlamp bulbs quite quickly lately - they seem to last about 6 months, whereas I used to only change bulbs on my old wedge 214 when I fancied an upgrade. I'm currently running Osram Nightbreaker Ultimates. So I have a few questions:



- Can I easily check that nothing electrical is wrong with my car?

- Is is a vibration issue? My headlamp beams seem pretty solid to me while driving.

- Do these bulbs just not last very long anyway?

- How long would you expect a pair of decent HIDs to last in a Mk2 45?



I don't want to get into an HID legality/MOT discussion - I've satisfied myself that I'll be OK if I fit them & I've read pretty much everything that's been said about them on here over the last few years. I'm just considering them because of the rapid failure rate of (supposedly) quality Osram bulbs.
