mg zr clutch spinning noise

My zr had developed a spinning noise I noticed today when not in gear and idling.

If I press the clutch pedal down and disengage the clutch it goes away.

The clutch was replaced less than 1k miles ago

I was told the cable was goosed as it now bites virtually at the floor but the mechanic told me the cables are rubbish and to get used to the new biting point

I am finding it hard to get used to

Yesterday I wheel spun away from a junction when trying to pull out fast cause I have to hold the clutch and keep the revs high to stop it stalling

Could I have wrecked the new clutch?

Any ideas what's wrong?
