Opinions on new motor

Hi all

Currently I'm driving a ZR 1.4 but am looking for something a bit more powerful as well as a bit more spacious and more put together than the ZR. So I'm thinking about a ZS amongst over options. In fact here is my list

  • MG ZR160

  • MG ZS120

  • MG ZS 1.8 Turbo (conversion)

  • MG ZS VVC (conversion)

Now my take on all of this is that the ZR160 will give me the added power and can be taken to about 170bhp maybe 180 at a real push but will not provide the comfort as well as space interior wise as the ZS.

The ZS120 is a good base to start from and can be tuned to a moderate 130-145bhp with the correct modifications. However I am finding it difficult to find any 4dr saloons for sale at the moment.

A 1.8 turbo is an interesting one. My method would be to purchase a dead 120 4dr with loom and PG1 already attached and buy a 1.8T engine, manifolds, turbo, ZS TD rad and intercooler, remapped ZandF ECU, injectors and throttle body. However the only problem I can see is the custom downpipe which I would need to get fabricated.

My final option is a ZS VVC conversion. from what I understand there is a little bit of splicing to do with the loom to fit the new engine but should be almost identical in terms of fitting the engine in. However like the ZR160 I will be pushing 170-180 unless I solid cam it in which case will cost mega bucks.

If you are reading this your input would be most helpful. :)

Regards,

Jack
