Tf speedo dies when accelerating

Ive had a quick search and can't find an answer

I picked a 160 TF last weekend with a failed clutch

Replaced the clutch yesterday and Ive just taken it for the first proper drive.

It seems juddery at low Revs but this seems to be improving as I've been driving it, I'm not sure how long it had been stood nor how old the petrol in it was. But it does seem to be improving.

I have noticed however that when I accelerate full throttle the speedo dies, dropping to 0, it kicks back in when I let off.

It doesn't seem to do it when I'm in fifth at higher speeds, more so lower gears when the vvc is kicking in.

Has anyone any ideas on this, the car seems to accelerate fine even with the speedo not working, though I've found it a bit sketchy having my foot to the floor and not knowing how fast I'm going.

Thanks in advance

Its a 2002 mg Tf 160 and everything seems standard
