help and advice wanted

After 3 hg failures I have decided it has to go...not the car but the engine...It`s done nearly 150k so Iv`e been looking on the bay for a low mileage motor...now the question is what are the differences between the coil pack engine and the distributor one ?.. are they interchangable ?there seem to be more of the early engines on there than the coil pack ones..
