is it ok not to have timing cover fitted??

as title says realy am thinkimg about leavin the top timing belt cover off my car but would this be ok?? or should i fit the cover ?? i will deffantly be puting the lower cover on but would just like some opinions or if someone that is using there car with out the cover fitted if you have any problems or anything
