MG ZR Temperature gauge not working

My mg zr 160 coolant temperature gauge is not working.



First thing I did was remove the connector plug and use a piece of wire to earth it. This made the temp gauge shoot straight up to hot. Therefore I concluded that the wiring to the sensor must be good.



I bought and fitted a new sensor : YCB100420 (blue one) but unfortunately this hasn't cured the gauge. I cleaned the connector with contact spray but it made no difference. I earthed out the connector plug again with a piece of wire and the gauge was moving straight to max. I then thought it might be bad luck the new sensor is faulty.



Today I got hold of another brand new sensor YCB100420 (blue one) and fitted it.... but the gauge is still not working!



Any ideas please ? :)
