Rover owners: The day may have arrived -clutch?

I decided that if my clutch starts playing up I would always have it sorted by someone I can trust on this Forum. Well I think the day may have arrived. I will explain what is happening -it may not even be the clutch, but it does sound pretty expensive. My wife witnessed a very loud sqeeling sound whilst reversing yesterday and during the process of lifting the clutch. She also says there has been a lesser noise from the same area, when starting off from cold on a morning that disappears. The car has done 104,000 and is now used in a lot of town driving. QUestion is what is this loud squeeling noise and where can I get it diagnosed and fixed. I'm in Farsley near Leeds and willing to travel.
