KV6 cam belt advice .
My parents 2.0 KV6 75 is now 14 years old. It will be due the annual service and MOT in July. It has done about 88,000 miles from new in their ownership and last had the belts replaced in 2007 at 7 years old (the garage was not keen on doing it but did it in the end).
Anyway, I know the kV6 cam belt change interval is 75k/6 years, which ever comes first. The car is in good condition, however, the question is is it worth paying out to replace the belts this year?
The chap who does the servicing on our Triumph and MGB says not to bother. He will do them as he can get the correct tools from his brother who is a Landrover specialist but thinks that the mileage my parents do in it is so low and the car worth so little that he would just keep running it as it is. Do you agree?
Like a lot of things, I understand that there are a few jobs that are also worth doing at the same time as the belts, such replacing the water pump and a coolant change.
Basically, would you recommend spending more than the car is worth doing the belts? If so what else would you suggest doing at the same time and which belt manufacturer would you recommend using?
The car is no longer my parents main car and therefore it has been kept as much because they are attached to it/it is worth so little/it has been a good car as any other reasons. Basically it is nice to keep (and use) but do/should they really need to spend that much on it?
