MG ZR 1.8 Turbo Questions
Hi everyone :) You may remember me, I started a thread a few months back stating i'd be interesting in turboing my ZR using the engine from a rover 75 1.8T. Upon a lot of research and self discovery and headache, I'm deciding to go ahead as planned.
I'm due to have a 1.8T engine shipped very soon from leiceshire (is that how you spell it) from some chap who is breaking his 75. But before I begin I want to make sure I have absolutely EVERYTHING correct as once I get everything assembled (as much as I can out of vehicle, I only plan on having my car off the road say over a weekend, all though the build itself won't be till late this year).
So just to confirm this is what I'm receiving (please bear in mind there may be some bits I don't need, but what I've asked for anyway).
1.8T Engine
Inlet Manifold (with map sensor and throttle body)
Exhaust Manifold
Turbo
Any ancillaries (inc alternator, although could I use the 1.4 alternator?)
Lambda Sensors
Heater/rad pipes
Any pipes that connect to the turbo (inc oil feed and return)
Intercooler piping (allthough I will be using a aftermarket intercooler)
Standard Boost controller/modulator thingy
Exhaust downpipe to flexi
Rover 75 ECU
Now one thing I haven't clarified is if I will be getting the gear box with the engine (it's listed as full complete engine), I don't want to bring up the subject because I'm getting it at a reasonable price, I also never clarified if the headgasket had been done nor the timing belt.
All I do know is that the engine is a good runner and that it was working perfectly before the seller decided he would break the car, I asked him what he was breaking the vehicle for, I simply got the answer "It had a nice/rare front bumper that I wanted and I needed a few other bits inc interiour, I also sold the alloys so decided to break".
In his ad he said the engine can be viewed running and was not long ago serviced (all though I cannot view as I'm to far away). Ill just have to literally take his word for everything. I am paying via paypal so I have peace of mind incase of any disputes.
Also can the IB5 Box be used with this engine? I have heard mixed reviews about this and some people are stating its better and some are not. It would save me a HUGE heart ace if it can.
Also when it comes to fitting a clutch do I fit a clutch that fits a 1.4 ZR or a 1.8t rover 75? Or are they all the same??
I have experience and knowledge of the k series engine but none with the turbo version so everything will be new to me. I will be using Rudders guide (link here http://ift.tt/1mUhd6p) to help me throughout this.
I have contacted Z & F tuning who said they can supply an ECU mapped for the ZR to run the 1.8T for £325, I know they have good support as a friend of mine has previously used them.
I will be using an aftermarket electronic boost controller also for this ( I think Z & F stated one from a subaru)
I appreciate any help and also is there anything else I need to know or should know?
