MPG Question

Ok Guys, The other half's 25 is drinking the petrol. She filled her up to the brim and reset the odometer. She is now nearly empty and has only covered around 300miles. I myself have a Vectra VXR which I can get the same mileage for a tank full. Yes, I know the tank in the Vectra is larger but surely the wee 25 should be able to return a better MPG? She uses the car almost daily for 14 mile round trips and stops off at the shops etc. She doesn't drive like a maniac so there's no excessive speeds etc. It says in the manufactures guidelines that this model should be getting around 41 MPG but I don't know if that's a true guide? Gets serviced regularly and everything at the moment checks out ok?
