Semi-slicks for track days

Hi,

We wish to do a few track days, and we bought the car with this in mind. It is a bit of a toy, and not going to be used as an everyday car.

I've been looking into tyres, and although I can find some semi-slicks in the standard size (205/45 r17), they are not common and expensive. Now I have found Federals 595's in 215/40 size, which someone on here in another of my posts said people do use as they are more common than the std tyres and therfore easier to source and often cheaper.

The car currently has different sizes anyway, and neither of which are the std size! It has 215/40 on the rears and 205/40 on the front. To be honest it drives great, no tramlinig etc at all and feels nice and stable.

Therefore, what downsides, if any, would there be to changing to 215/40's all round, which would allow us to get the 595's. The car is not lowered and is on std suspension. Has anyone tried 215's on the front, and if so, was there any rubbing? Would the slightly wider tyre affect turn in or stability in corners etc?

If 215's on the front are not an option, then we are back to using road tyres.

Has anyone any opinions ro experience of 215/40's all round?

Thanks, as always! :)
