very hot expansion bottle

hi all , i bought my first mg last month and been very happy with it but have noticed the last few times i have opened the boot how hot the expansion bottle is my temp gauge and oil gauge stay constant but i have never heard the fans come on i have checked fuses they seem fine, i did see a you tube video on how to check engine bay fan by pulling the connector only trouble is mine does not have a connector in the said position any ideas ,it it a 54 plate tf stepspeed, thxs tony
