Heating up problems :(
Hi all, hoping someone can give some advice on the following problem with my 1998 Rover 220 SD.
After changing both cambelt and belt for fuel injection pump, whilst heating up to operating temperature the engine starts to faulter and lose power aproaching and over 2000 RPM. This is accompanied by lots of exhaust smoke and metallic tappet like sound. BUT when normal operating temp is reached it runs perfectly fine.
There were a few difficulties changing cambelt, mainly the idler pully bolt was stuck solid on its thread, and the only way of removing the idler was to drop the engine right down so chassis wasn't in way. Other thing was that it was impossible to get the timing marks to meet properly when fitting new belt so valve timing is a tooth out.
I don't think the valves and pistons are touching as car has done nearly 3000 miles since belt change.
Have checked turbo bearings for wear in case this was causing problem but no excessive play there. I also had a electronic diagnosis carried out which said MAF sensor and EGR valve had fault codes. I replaced MAF sensor with a cheap 'new' one from ebay - but it made the problem worse 10 fold!
Can anyone help or give some guidance please?
