Another VP30 pump thread (Metering solenoid failure?)
Hi guys,
I'm already on my 2nd Rover 25 iDT and I've had to replace my current psg5 ECU with the one out of my spare 25 (140.000 km on it's clock, ran fine now for 23.000km in my current 25)
I also just replaced the intercooler to inlet manifold hose with new silicone one since my old one ripped on both cars, drove about 2km and my engine just went out and it won't start again. I does work for a short time (3 seconds) using starting fluid, but it won't run on it's own.
The timing belt for the pump is fine and it hasn't jumped, so the timing should be okay.
There is fuel spraying out if the injectors are opened, I can't judge the pressure but it's not dripping but spraying. That makes me rule out the diesel filter.
I've also checked the connector to the fuel pump and used some contact spray.
This all led me the to well know VP30 failure, but I hesitated because the ECU has already been swapped out and eventhough it's an old one it worked fine until the end.
So I checked the voltage on the pump and it's 12V with the ignition on and ~7V while turning the engine over. So I think it has to be the metering solenoid.
Now, I still have a second VP30 from my first 25 (130k on it's clock).
What would you guys do? Buy or craft a tool to remove and replace the faulty metering solenoid or swap out the whole pump using the working but old PSG5 ECU?
A rebuild for the ECU is 152 EUR in Poland but why fix something that's still working.
