Just Broke Down :( Rover 25 Diesel 2L 2002 model

car is rover 25 2L Diesel 2002,

about 100 miles ago I noitce i slight judder when driving along (feel it in your stomach kind of thing), i increased the tick over to try and smooth it out. Today it got worse and I pulled up at the traffic lights and the car cut out. I managed to pull both pipes of the fuel filter and when turning over no fuel came out, then I hiked the rest of the 6 miles to work, after my 12 hour shift will be towing it home, any ideas?? where to start
