MG ZR Cone filter was awful

Well I gave it a go for 6 months to see how it would go.

I got a K&N cone filter for a 105 1.4l engine. My initial idea was mainly to add a little bit of sound to the engine and also hopefully extra air intake.

I was aware they do not increase BHP as claimed and noticed no increase at all, in fact I experienced the opposite.

I had put it on during January when it was cold and my drives to University on cold winter mornings did not feel really any different than with the oem air filter box.

Now during the current summer weather the car really started to lag due to heat soak. My wife even noticed. I would put my foot down and although it sounded good, there was no pull. No speeding up.

I have no switched back to the oem filter box and it is far superior. Car is nippy now and responds better in 1st and 2nd gear.

I would not go back to a cone filter.

I will be looking towards installing an IMG closed induction system. As for cone filters, I would avoid these at all costs.

A decent Janspeed exhaust would be best option if looking for decent sound and slight performance increase.
