Starting problem and engine noise tf135

Ive owned my tf for 6 months and its a great car with only 40k on the clock, there are however two issues that if i can't reolve it may have to go!



1. Very occasionaly when you go to start the car it doesnt crank, release the key and try again its fine. So far its only happened when cold, possible solenoid?



2. The engine to me sounds tappety around 800-2000rpm it comes and goes at idle, under slight load/acceleration it disappears which I wouldnt expect from tappets?



Any advice would be great.
