MGF Tyres/Wheels

I currently have the 16" 11 spoke alloys on my Trophy which are (thanks to the previous owner) a bit motheaten! The tyres are Falcons on the front and Jinyus on the rear. I was planning to change the tires for something better however I have been told that I can achieve a fairly dramatic improvement in handling by changing to the 15 inch wheels instead. Before doing so I wanted to ask those in the forum for their experience/recommendations on wheels and tires (on a budget) to get to the best solution (even if in more than one step). I am also planning to carry out the 280mm brake conversion to the rear (the Trophy has 304mm on the front) supplied by MGFMania, so if anyone has experience of that sort of a conversion, I would love the feedback on that too.
