Does it sound like a hgf failure or not?

Hi well I've had my thermostat housing out and all the surrounding work done and 22 miles later the coolant has bubbled up to almost over flowing the water temp was bang on a mark below half and then 2 mins from home it went sky high again and fluctuated with the revs again so I assume the mechanic I took it to didn't really get it right as similar symptoms have happened prior to having the thermostat work done. I'm assuming the only thing left is a head gasket failure am I right?

The hg was done 3 years ago and it's only 15,000 miles since it was done just annoyed and wondered if the same thing had happened to anyone else. I've booked it in with mg lifestyle in brighouse from the recommendation on here (as they are local to me) but just wondered what I should prepare myself for as I've spent over 4k on it on 20,000 done over 4 years so bit fed up atm with it but can't put a price on my smile when it's right :) thanks in advance
