Engine whistle
Hi, I'm a new member to the forums but need your help. I have a 75 CDTI on an 03 plate. It has recently developed an annoying whistle from the engine bay. I have read previous advise and have discounted the front end fuel pump (the noise didn't go when I turned the engine off whilst driving).
The noise seems to be coming from the offside of the engine and is only evident after the engine has been running for a minute or so and when I looked under the car it seems to be losing fluid, this is clear so can discount oil. To add, I had the aircon regassed and at the time they said that it didn't work properly (despite it being noticeably better) as there may be a problem with the condenser. For a while the air con was whooping when turned on. I am only guessing that this may be the cause of my problems. I was under the car today and am now positive it is coming from the lower part of the engine, so I am becoming more convinced it is the compressor. However, it doesn't stop when the switched to econ mode. I am novice when it comes to car maintenance but prepared to get stuck in andt give it a go to keep costs down.
Can anyone suggest what it may be, how to test that theory and what solutions could be available?
Cheers for your help.
