MGF oil filler mounting

Can anybody answer this please, i have recently just attempted to top the oil up on my "R" reg MGF, most of the oil ended up on the garage floor, on investigation with a light in the engine bay i could also see light appear down the oil filler pipe. The bracket that holds the oil filler pipe is retained via a 10mm stud to the engine block. the bracket has 2 holes, does anyone know or can look on theirs which hole (top or bottom) it should be bolted by.

The bracket on mine is cracked so i am wondering if it has been re-seated to avoid the crack however causing an oil leak during topping as a result.
