R65 synchro crunch?

My ( 25K mile only ) 414 ( R65 box ) occasionally has a crunch into 2nd gear if I don't time the gears (particularly on cold days). I've changed the gear oil for new but suspect that the synchro on second may be on its way out. Any thoughts? Would it be easier just to swap it for a good known box or get into the cogs? I know which route I would prefer to go if I have to!!!
