What profit does the dealer make on MG3 sale?

Went to test drive an MG3 a few weeks ago and really liked it. The dealer had a few in stock, one which caught my eye, right spec and colour scheme etc. I asked him if they would give any discount for cash and he said no as they make no money at all on new cars.....which is rubbish! How much do they make? Car in question is £10317 and is on a 14 plate which is now not the latest reg. Now there's a real prospect of me wanting one now as wife's mgf has suffered yet another problem do you reckon there is any chance of negotiating a cash deal? I've never bought a brand new car and I always assumed you could knock them down a bit!
