Engine not starting

Does anyone have any idea why my engine is not starting?



Symptoms - Turn the key, get a clicking/ticking sound and what sounds like a pump from front left area behind dash. I presume that's the fuel pump. But, there is no movement at all from the engine!



Also the lights on the dash go on and off in time with the ticking and pumping. Another thing I noticed was that the headlights come on when I turn the key.



Electrics seem fine and, before you ask, there is plenty of fuel.



Never had a starting issue before in 5 years of ownership.
