fitting a 1.8 in rover 100

I have fitted a 1.8 120 out of an mg zr into my rover 100. I have done this conversion before but I fitted an mgf engine. What I want to know is on the zr engine it has seperate coils so wiring is different can I mod the wiring to work pencil coils or do I have to change it to the old distributor type any help would be appreciated
