Got a flashing brake light problem

I have been stopped by a few other drivers, all telling me that my brake lights are flashing.



Does anyone know the cause of this?



Could it be the fact that the front pads are running thin and due for replacement (though this has never been a problem on any other car I've owned)?



Could someone tell me where the switch is located please? So I can check for loose connections etc.
