MGF cam position sensor P0340 fault code
Hi folks. I'm new to MG(F) ownership but I've used the forum a lot, thanks, and now I've joined the club :-)
My 2001 1.6 MGF seems to be constantly throwing up the code 'P0340' which I understand, is faulty cam position sensor.
The first time I noticed it I took the sensor out and cleaned it. It was saturated with oil which seemed to have seeped past the hole it fits in, too. Checking with an OBDII reader the issue seemed immediately solved.
A week or so later I checked the OBD and got the code again. The oily sensor and surrounding was cleaned again but the code now persists. I'm not sure it was ever 'cured'.
The car doesn't seem to run particularly roughly, but I wouldn't know for sure since I've only just 'rescued' her. I gather the injectors fire as pairs rather than sequentially with the sensor 'out' affecting emissions and mpg (which seems to be around 30mpg at present although the brakes are brand new and 'bind' a little...)
Can anyone offer any advice or help with a solution please? (I'm thinking perhaps substitute a used sensor + wiring and keep checking the OBD?)
