MGF poor cranking when cold

Hi guys, hopefully just a quickie.. I've tried to search but I can't find anything with similar symptoms.



The MGF over the last month or so has become a little hesitant to start first thing, or if he has been left standing through the day. On the first turn of the key it's as though the battery is flat, and the starter turns the engine over maybe one turn. If you release the key and then try again it cranks as normal and starts immediately. Once started and running then there is no more trouble unless left for a few hours. It has happened maybe a handful of times in the 18 month we've had him, but since it's turned colder it's now every day.



Any suggestions as to what this could be? All other aspect of running are spot on, just this weird reluctance to turn over.
