Sourced a water leak on tailgate wiring loom :)
Well after starting to strip my rear seats out to install my amplifier wiring kit and to tackle a leaking seal on the rear quarter glass window i spotted water getting in on the right side of the boot and i assumed this was the rear window but how i was so wrong :)
Turns out that after stripping back the carpet on the right side of the wall the source of the water was obviously not the rear window as i originally thought and this is what caused me to have a puddle in the spare tyre space.....
What you can't see in this picture is there was a trail of water running down the wires from above and the plastic connectors here were pretty wet and the cable / tubing underneath was just as bad. This resulted in rain water coming in from somewhere and running down the wires and ending up in the right corner of the boot and making it's way into the tyre space. Straight away i could see this was coming from the tailgate wiring and working its way down into the boot and so i started to peel back the electrical tape from the wiring to find this.....
The previous owner of the car either himself or a garage he used had fixed the common issue of the frayed wires through the tailgate loom as i could see some of them had been soldered and covered in electrical tape. What the muppet didn't do was instead of feeding the rubber surrounding gromet away from the boot and sliding it back over the repaired wires they just cut it off instead. You can see the surrounding gromet resting to the right of the wires which fell off once the tape was removed. I have tried to do my best in repairing this with some tape but water is still seeping in and for the cost of £69 i've ordered a new tailgate wiring loom complete with the rubber gromet which it seems comes on the wiring itself and you cant purchase this seperately.
I haven't had any electrical problems with the car so the repair obviously worked but as i cant stop the leaking and i don't want any further damage this seems the easier option. Now all i have to do is work out how to wrestle the rear drivers side fixings off in order to get the rear quarter glass out so i can replace the leaking rubber seal with some black silicone !
