Crunching gear changes

Hi everyone, I have a 2004 MG TF 160 Spark and of late shifting into 5th ABOVE 4,000 rpm gives a strange shudder through the gear lever as it goes home and the clutch is engaged. BELOW 4,000 rpm it doesn't do it, additionally, reverse has started jumping out as its loaded up, especially backing up a hill or some such leading to a dreadful clatter/rattle, doesn't do it every time but I have started to notice it. No other gear is doing it. I have have clambered under and extended the cable one rotation of the ball joint to no effect.



Does anyone have any idea of whats going on or am I starting to get expensive noises, car has done 75,000klms.
