Rover 25, loss of power/acceleration....

I've noticed that sometimes when i start the car (Rover 25 diesel) and take off, i've conked out more recently. After a while i noticed that when i press the accelerator, after starting and in neutral, the revs increase very very slowly, even on full throttle, until it climbs to about 3500rpm then it revs out quickly and it's back to normal again.



It has now started to do it while driving, cruising along then suddenly no power for a few seconds then full power again? it doesn't happen all the time, just unexpectedly. It has a mafless remap, but the problem does seem to be getting worse.



Any ideas what it come be?
