75 Tourer tailgate glass locking issues

A week or so ago the glass section of my boot stopped opening, as I didn't have any problems with the main boot door, after some reading online I thought that the latch box (BMW Part!) had died, so this morning I replaced it.



It now works intermittently (you press the button under the wiper and about 30 secs to a minute later it thinks about opening....), which is an improvement as it didn't work at all before, the problem is that now I've had to unplug it as it keeps firing which along with the fact that I had to keep trying it to test it while I changing the box over, opening the main boot to get back to it when it didn't and and the interior lights being on the whole time (it took me a while to get the old one out!) flattened the battery. Weirdly I noticed that when I tried to start the car a couple of times before getting my jump starter out, along with the normal clicking and the petrol guage going up the required level and back down to empty, the glass also opened itself.



My question is could it be a problem with the wiring (I checked the bits I could see and couldn't see any damage) or the button on the wiper? I was think more the button as everything else at the back of the car is working fine, reversing lights, parking sensors, boot door, third brake light etc., but I can't work out how to get it off.?
