How Much Have You Spent? ;0)
OK, common theme on here that these cars are addictive but are beset with problems, now they're getting on a bit. They aren't cheap to run in consequence. I was shot down for saying that on here the other day, but here's what I've spent on mine since my HGF in 2011 (all figures approximate):
6 x Toyos ~ £400
1 x balljoint (garage job) ~£36
Tracking (due to balljoint)~ £15
Balancing (separate to new tyres) ~£15
2 x wheel nuts ~£12
8 x AP caliper pins ~£20
Stainless underfloor coolant pipes ~£75
Rear vinyl screen £90
Spark plugs £16
Ignition leads ~£25
Front alloys unbent and renovated ~£80
4 x front of subframe mounts ~£60
Bolts for subframe mounts ~£10
BCU relays (x 5) ~£25
Brake discs all round ~£110
MLS gasket/head skim/Waterpump/cam belt/coolant £900 (shafted, I know)
Paint (satin black/primer/base*/lacquer/POR15/Waxoyl/stonechip) ~ £115
(*non-standard colour, in a rattle can, to order)
2 x ML Cavity Wax and extension tube ~£25
Brake pads all round, twice ~£85
Dot 4 brake fluid ~£10
AP Caliper refurb kits £45
Engine tie bar poly bushes (removed in the end) ~£50
Engine tie bar OEM £50
Wheel stud £5
Air filter ~£8
Bulbs ~£10
Wind deflector ~£80?
Battery £50
Coolant £20
Four wheel alignment £25
Monsoon MG TF car cover ~£80
Bosch deflector wiper arms £10
Hard top hangers ~£20
That's £2557 since my head gasket went back in 2011, though most of the cost otherwise is in the last two years, and I'm probably low-balling postage costs and haven't included oil and oil filters. Of course, you could argue tyres and air filters, spark plugs and brake pads are all consumables, but...
Also, I do nearly all my own work myself. God knows the cost if I'd had a garage do it all...
This year, I possibly have a front wheel bearing coming up and I certainly need a new back box, plus I have a cracked and bent alloy needs replacing. Let's call that another £500? About £3100 over a 4 year period, £775/year. Hmmm, not so bad when looked at that way. Now, in man-hours though...
