Suspected HGF
Well after losing coolant for a while and not being able to find it, the oil is pulling up mayo on the dipstick. Because I don't really use it it isn't too much of an issue. I am taking it to the garage tomorrow or Tuesday for confirmation. It isn't a one off - you can do it in any weather, whether car is hot or cold and it brings up small amounts of mayo at the moment. After a drive the dipstick is more fully covered in it.
However, I won't be getting it repaired. I have recently been building a large telescope so will be moving off into the world of an estate or people carrier to lug it about. I suspect it will go to the great scrap yard in the sky if no one wants it for spares or repair, if I do decide to advertise it in the near future.
So I have had a wonderful time driving my MG, and thanks to help from people on here, learned how to repair all aspects of my car. So I think it is likely thank you and farewell... for now!
Regards
John
