Clutch fluid level?

Just wanting a quick sanity check here, where should the clutch fluid be filled up to on a 600 diesel? Please don't say "the max line" hah, I just mean in terms of should the reservoir be relatively full, or should there not be that much fluid in it? Someone was trying to tell me today that the res should only have an inch or so of fluid in it in total, I disagreed but it's made me doubt myself so thought I'd check with someone more knowledgeable :)
