Electrical Funnies (I think!?)
Not a special Thursday.
Just a normal one.
Sun shining, lovely morning. Traffics average. Off to work we go. Dual carriageway. Overtook some cars, Wehayyy. She took off like a whippet, going really well. Until... :bored:
ABS light comes on.
BAT light comes on.
SRS light comes on.
Oil temp gauge goes up to two thirds (normally stays bang on one third or 120).
Water temp gauge goes all the way up off the scale (normally stays about half way).
Strong smell of something getting very very hot fills the cockpit.
Luckily I was approaching a layby so to quote a certain song "I pulled on over and I shut her down".
A good friend transported me and her home on his breakdown truck. Had to leave her for a couple of days until I had time to investigate.
Just tested the battery and got 3.5 volts.
My friend thinks the alternator is probably the culprit.
Any ideas / advice gratefully received.
I've removed the belt and the alternator spins freely with no rumbling.
While I'm waiting for the battery to charge, is it possible to test the alternator with a multi-meter without the engine running?
Cheers
