the jinx strikes again!
Having battled through th M1 roadworks to reach Silverstone just in time for the track-day briefing, gone back out to fill up, done the pace laps and got the car quite nicely wound up for the next couple of laps, I prepared to get down to business for he second session. Some hopes! The other year it was the clutch pipe that gave way half-way through the second session - this time it was the nearside front wheel bearing that chewed itself. A bit of a bang, followed by a pulsating grinding noise. Pulled into the pits to investigate, heaving on all the wheels - all solid, it seemed. Took it back out at the back of the next session to check further and decided it had to be wheel bearing, although it wasn't the usual continuous moan I've had before. Anyway, jacking up the front, the nearside was very loose and clonky. tried to find somewhere local, but one could do anything same day. Packed everything up and headed off carefully back to base some 100 miles away. At least it was a very nice day for a topless drive at a gentle pace! Local garage here can do it before we head off home, and I reckon I'll get the other side done soon, just in case!
